Barton Hills CC Ninth Green Recontouring

In Classic Golf Architecture, Donald Ross, Golf Course Capital Improvements, Golf Infrastructure Improvements, Greens Drainage, Greens Regrassing

Again hats off, so to speak, to XGD Supervisor Keith Kirsch, as he subtly installs a “Tophat” to the ninth green at Barton Hills CC in Ann Arbor, MI under the guidance of architect Ron Prichard and course superintendent Tim Dark. Below is a picture by picture slide show sent my way by Keith for this blog:

Above the XGD crew is laying out the area of GUD, so they can begin removing an appropriate amount of sod.

I love this shot of the 10 year old XGD System working perfect after all these years, and the staff have begun their removal of original greens cavity so it can be replaced layer by layer back in to the newly designed greens cavity.

Another shot of excavated greens cavity where the new “hogback” will be reinstalled.

Close up view of corner of new greens dome and how pronounced the back of the hogback is in relation to existing putting surface contours.

Last, but not least the finished shot which is barely noticeable from the front of the ninth green.

All in all, Keith and his XGD recontouring crew reworked six putting surfaces, in conjunction with the TDIGolf restoration project underway at this classic golf club. Several of the greens recontouring efforts included the reinstall of several lineal footage of XGD 2″ pipe installed by many of these same team members over 10 years ago. It is nice for both the facility and XGD, when we can return to the same facility over and over again when they need subtle tweaking of their treasured putting surfaces.

So give us a call if we might get your facility some of these budget numbers for your next greens recontouring project.
