Evanston Golf Club XGD Install

In Classic Golf Architecture, Donald Ross, Golf Course Capital Improvements, Greens Drainage

XGD Supervisor Keith Kirsch and crew recently completely the first phase of a subsurface greens drainage installation at Evanston Golf Club in Skokie, IL, near Chicago’s north shore area. This initial phase is typical for most clubs who just want to”get their feet wet with XGD”, so to speak. It included installing our Classic XGD Drainage System in to their six poorest performing greens, and then adopting a wait and see approach on the final dozen greens after reviewing performance in the upcoming stressful summer period. The picture below illustrates the eighteenth green and approach which the club chose to complete together to give their members firm and fast conditions throughout the entire greens complex area:

Compare the above “green under the knife” photo with the one below which Keith just completed a week earlier, and you can barely tell we were there. And in the photo above we just completed the approach and front of green the day before.

Course superintendent Dan Charlton keeps this Donald Ross designed masterpiece in immaculate form as you can tell by these pictures. Evanston GC has its roots back to 1898, but Mr. Ross brought it forward a notch in 1917 with his redesign. We look forward to an ongoing relationship with this fine old club, as we just received word we may be back on site as early as fall 2012 to begin the next phase of their greens infrastructure upgrades.

Please reach out to us at greens drainage headquarters so we might begin a dialogue on how me might help your facility out with some golf course drainage upgrades to help your club be a little more appealing than the one down the road with waterlogged fairways and greens.

Cheers, Poor Old Dirt & Grass Farmer
