The Minikahda Club XGD Installation Project

In Donald Ross, Golf Course Capital Improvements, Golf Drainage, Golf Infrastructure Improvements, Greens Drainage, Long Term Effectiveness of Drainage, Soil Gas Exchange

XGD Supervisor Keith Kirsch began last week at The Minikahda Club in downtown Minneapolis overlooking Lake Calhoun. Course superintendent Jeff Johnson has tweeted and blogged several pictures of this facilities clubhouse overlooking Lake Calhoun in the background. There might not be a better inland clubhouse location anywhere.

Another bit of eye candy Keith submitted is this late afternoon shot of one of the stunning Donald Ross designed greenpads at Minikahda that we will be completing in the upcoming weeks as part of the final 12 greens to be outfitted with the XGD System:

Minikahda will be the first club in MN to have all their greens drained with our subsurface internal greens drainage system, and we hope a successful project here will lead to other clubs in the area improving their pushup green infrastructure for the long term.

Below is a great action shot of one of the first greens under the knife for this installation at the third greensite where Keith captured some shoveled dirt in the air on its way to it’s intended new home, the rear end of an XGD utility vehicle. Of particular note is the perfect “shovel shape” of the airborne, 100+ year old pushup greens subsoil in the center of the picture:

Notice the shovel grooves still intact as Sarain fires this in to our cart. And lastly below is another expanded picture of the third green as sod has been removed and we are beginning the trenching operation:

Those of you in the Twin Cities region should try to come out over the next few weeks to view our team in action and see some finished greens and a green under the knife. Once complete here the crew switches gears and heads over to Medina G&CC , MN to begin a small fairway project there for course superintendent Erin McManus.

Cheers, Poor Old Dirt & Grass Farmer
