Golf Greens Drainage at Oakley CC, served with Chocolate Drops

 In Uncategorized

Here are a few pics of some Donald Ross “chocolate drops” smattered here and there throughout the golf experience at Oakley CC http://www.oakleycountryclub.org/ near Boston, MA.
The second picture of the singular choco drop is a full 6′ high and probably 8’deep if your ball lands directly behind the monster drop in the grass bunker and your only shot is sideways back to the fairway. These drops of turf are located here and there throughout the golf round here at Oakley CC. These drops could have been added by DRoss or other golf architects over time, but they are a truly classic golf feature that adds to the soft gentle contours that exist throughout the property at Oakley.
XGD Operations Manager Mark Rowan recently completed the greens drainage install here on the final 16 greens after we completed a few in the fall of 09. The membership at Oakley was thrilled with that initial XGD install last fall and quickly signed on with us for the balance that was just completed over the weekend here in Watertown,MA. Another great addition to the golf playing experience here at Oakley CC are the hickory shaft flag sticks which add a really classic touch to the golf.
After Mark Rowan completes a few greens in Poughkeepsie,NY at Casperkill GC http://www.casperkillgolf.com/ early this week, he and the crew begin the greens at The Maidstone Club http://www.maidstoneclub.org/ on the eastern shores of Long Island, NY. They will be out in this area for a few weeks before heading to complete the few final greens at Canoebrook CC in Jersey.
So please contact us if you or any others from your club choose to view our greens restoration process “under the knife” so to speak…
Cheers, Poor Old Dirt & Grass Farmer
